Do you ever dream of being a world famous novelist? I feel like I should write a novel, but it’s always so hard to get started. I’m not sure what I would write about, and I’m afraid I would write something too goofily autobiographical. They say that the key to being a good writer is to read a ton, so I’m focusing on that for now!
Besides not having a topic for a novel, I’m not so sure I have the name to be a novelist. I’d like a name with a little more zing… a pen name or “nom de plume” is what I’m looking for 🙂 It would be nice to have a cool sounding, literary name – especially if people could pronounce it more easily than Kari. (Yes, it just rhymes with “starry,” but that’s still a bit tricky for some people!)
Were you fascinated by pen names as a kid? I always thought the idea of changing your name was extremely interesting – probably because names seemed so set in stone until I learned that you can change them. I don’t think I’d want to change my name permanently, but I think it’s cool how some authors sometimes adopt pen names to try out a different persona or to secretly test a new idea without attaching their names to it.
Instead of coming up with my own pen name, I decided to write a quiz to do it. I hope you enjoy getting your own pen name as well, and who knows? Maybe this quiz will inspire you (and me) to get writing:Â What’s Your Pen Name?
Discussion question: Would you prefer to write under your own name or under a pen name?
