New Quiz: The Flower Petal Test. This Quick Quiz is Shockingly Revealing!

pretty pink flower
What does the flower you envision say about you?

There’s no doubt about it… this summer has been the best ever in my life for flowers. Usually the Texas heat makes flowers a little rarer than I’d like by the time July rolls around, but we’ve had a slightly cooler than usual summer. That means there are blooming flowers everywhere, and I love it. I don’t have the patience to grow my own flowers, and I’m too stingy to buy any. I’m very thankful that I have neighbors who grow beautiful flowers of every color and kind. I enjoy their flowers instead of having my own… and by enjoy, I just mean looking. Jeez! I would never clip any! 😉

There have been a lot of quizzes on Blogthings dealing with the meaning of flowers based on type, season, and color. I really wanted to do another flower quiz to celebrate my summer of flowers, but I felt stuck in a rut. Then I found some interesting research in a book about flower petals as far as their shape, amount, and meaning went. This seemed like a cool concept to me, because it’s more about shapes and numbers than flowers.

Take The Flower Petal Test, and let me know what result you get. Does it fit? Did you find it easy or difficult to imagine a flower in your mind?

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Flower Petal Test? Is it true for you?
  2. What floral smell do you like the best? How do you incorporate this scent in your life?

  4. Did you ever pick petals off a flower to see if someone loved you or not? Was your answer correct?
  5. Take What Flower Are You? What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: The Banana Test

When you think banana, what comes to mind? Take my latest word association quiz to find out what your banana association means!
When you think banana, what comes to mind? Take my latest word association quiz to find out what your banana association means!

Do you love bananas? I’m not sure if they are my favorite fruit, but they are a staple fruit in my life… especially in the summer. Just freeze them, whirl them in the food processor with some chocolate (or plain), and you’ve got the healthiest “ice cream” imaginable. I can’t imagine a summer without bananas, although maybe I heard bananas as we know them are in jeopardy. Terrible! I hope I can figure out how to have a banana tree in central TX to get my fix 😉

But this blog post isn’t really supposed to be about bananas… It’s about word association tests. Are you familiar with them at all? They were popularized in the 1950s, and many marketers still use them today.
(If you watch Mad Men, you might notice that they often do an internal word association poll with the creative people when a new ad is being developed.) While these tests may not be the most psychologically sound, they are at least a little revealing. I thought it would be a fun quick quiz for a Friday to try one.

So head on over to The Banana Test, and pick what you most associate with banana! Come back here to let me know what you think of your result… and word association tests in general. If y’all like this kind of test, I’m excited to do more 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  2. What do you think of word association tests? Would you like to see another one on Blogthings sometime?
  3. Is there something else that you associate with banana that wasn’t on the test? What is it?

New Quiz: The Elevator Test. Find Out What Your Elevator Habits Reveal About You!

row of elevator buttons
What does your elevator button pressing style say about you?

Do you spend a lot of time in elevators? Thankfully, I do not! I am not a fan of elevators at all, and I try to take the stairs whenever possible. I like the extra exercise, and there’s less risk of being stuck. I live in an area without many tall buildings, so the stairs is almost always an option. However, when I’m in NYC or Boston, I take more elevators than I’d like… and I get to witness a lot of “elevator psychology.”

I have always been fascinated by how people act while waiting for and while in an elevator. Who pushes the up or down button when it’s already lit? Who likes to ask people which floor and push the button for them? Who is friendly and who stares straight ahead? An elevator is an interesting little microcosm in which I can observe strangers and how they act around people they’ll probably never see again!

There is some research to back up the link between elevator behavior and personality! I see a few quizzes coming on 🙂 My first elevator quiz is a quickie based on this research from Hunch. Who knew how you push an elevator button could say so much about you? (I recommend checking out the research after you take the quiz so that you don’t spoil your result!)

Does how you push an elevator button link up with your personality? Take my latest quiz, The Elevator Test, to find out. I did a bit of extrapolation and modernizing of the original research, and I’m curious to see if your result fits you.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Elevator Test
  2. Do you like elevators? Or like me, do you prefer the stairs?
  3. Have you ever had something scary, weird, or funny happen in an elevator? What was it?
  4. Being in an elevator is a minor phobia for me. So, take How Phobic Are You? What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: What Type of M&M Are You?

big bunch of plain m&ms
What kind of M&M are you? Plain? Peanut? Pretzel?

Do you like M&Ms? I love this delicious little treat. I sometimes eat M&Ms plain, but I really like them as a part of something else. They go great in a salty trail mix, and my all time favorite ice cream from my hometown creamery is M&M. Also, M&Ms are my favorite treat to give out for Halloween, and I put the leftovers in oatmeal cookies. Weird, but strangely delicious.

When I was growing up, there were only a couple kinds of M&Ms – plain and peanut. Now I feel overwhelmed by the variety of M&Ms available, and of course, I love them all. I haven’t found other people to be the same way though – most people I know have an M&M they like and stick to it. And of course, I wonder if this is based on personality…

Do you agree that M&M preference can be linked to your personality? Or do you simply love food quizzes as much as I do? To find out what M&M best suits you, take my latest quiz: What Type of M&M Are You? (Warning! It made me very hungry to write this one.) Comment below to let me know what your result is and what you think about M&Ms.

  1. What do you get on What Type of M&M Are You? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you like M&Ms? What kinds?

New Quiz: What Does Your Favorite Junk Food Say About You?

slice of peperoni pizza
What does your favorite kind of junk food reveal about you?

Do you like junk food? I’m not even going to pretend that I don’t. I try to eat healthy food most of the time, but I definitely like to have a bit of junk food too! I think it’s all about balance and moderation. I try not to eat too much junk food (although it’s difficult when I’m stressed), and I try to find healthier alternatives to the junk food I enjoy.

There is a ton of research on junk food and personality psychology, and some of it is pretty persuasive. It does seem like the food you crave is at least partially based on mood and temperament. However, I’ve always found that this research is a bit lacking – as it doesn’t address the most popular types of junk food.

I wanted to put my own spin on junk food psychology, and I think I have with my latest quiz: What Does Your Favorite Junk Food Say About You? This quick quiz will let you know how your personality matches up with your favorite junk food indulgence. Let me know what you get, and what you think about junk food below!

P.S. – As you may have noticed, there’s no Friday Five this week. I’ve decided to use this time and space to release new quizzes instead. Thanks to everyone who entered the Friday Five, and I hope you’ll enjoy the new quizzes I’m realeasing on Fridays 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What Does Your Favorite Junk Food Say About You? Is it true for you?
  2. What are some of your favorite junk food indulgences?
  3. When are you most likely to eat junk food? How do you incorporate it into a healthy lifestyle?
  4. Take What Comfort Food Are You? What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: The Halftone Test

nine halftone images
Which halftone image best fits you? Pick the one you like to hear about the dark and light sides of your personality.

Ever since I discovered what they were, I’ve been a huge fan of Halftone images. They are images that use different techniques of black and white shading to look continuous to the human eye. From far away they may just look gray, but up close, they are interesting and intricate. Halftone was originally used in print, and of course, it doesn’t have much use in the digital world of unlimited colors. Still, I think the patterns are very cool – and I’m partial to anything with black and white.

So when I discovered these cool halftone images (see above), I knew I had to use them in a quiz. Black and white gives me a chance to play off the light and dark sides of a personality, which I love to do. Some people might find this too negative, and while Blogthings generally emphasizes strengths, I like to look at the flip side of things too. (Hardcore personality theory geeks: I based this quiz off the enneagram, and feel free to guess / ask what your number type was supposed to be.)

Anyway, give The Halftone Test a whirl, and let me know what you think of your result 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Halftone Test? Is it true for you?
  2. What sort of black and white patterns do you like? Bold contrasts? Or more subtle pin striping?
  3. Is there any part of design that interests you? Typography? Color theory? Fashion design? Cake design? I feel like we’re all a kind of arty bunch here, so I’d like to know where your interests lie.
  4. Take The Retro Pattern Test. What do you think of your result?

The Colorful Pattern Test

Isn’t it amazing how much we can be attracted to certain images? When I saw this image set, it was just so bright and happy. The colors really inspired me – I love the way the bold reds contrast with the lighter blues and browns. I knew it would be turned into a quiz when the time was right, and today’s the day! Please take my newest quiz: The Colorful Pattern Test

I was inspired to write this quiz because I think we all have very strong reactions to patterns. The patterns I surround myself are pretty important to me – they inspire me, calm me, cheer me up, and make me feel at home. I know for myself there are some that I love and some that I can’t stand – and I’m not even sure the reason why. If you’ve ever tried to choose an interior design pattern with a loved one, then you know how dicey pattern preferences can be. We each have our own ideas about what we like, and my goodness, it can take a while to find something everyone agrees on.

I know that even for myself, the type of pattern I’m into can be very dependent on my current mood. Some days I’m all about stripes, while other days I’ll go for polka dots. So I think that The Colorful Pattern Test can be a great way of checking in with oneself to see what’s going on internally. Am I craving chaos? Order? Excitement? Taking this quiz can give me a clear of idea of exactly what I’m missing at any given moment – and what I need to bring fun back into my life.

So please go ahead and take The Colorful Pattern Test. What result did you get? Did my quiz accurately capture what is fun about you? Comment below and let me know!

The Central Park Test: Take This Relaxing Quiz and Gain New Insights About Yourself!

There’s nothing that makes me feel cozier in the winter than thinking about Central Park. I love it for all seasons, and it’s one of my favorite places in the world. I actually have a beautiful poster of Central Park in the winter from 1961 in my writing nook. (That’s right – no desk for me! I have a comfy nook I write from.) I’m sure that this poster originally inspired me to write down this quiz idea, but in truth, I’ve been obsessing over Central Park since I was a kid.

I think Central Park is alluring to me because it’s a little oasis in the city. You see, I’m a city person at heart … but not too much of one. I love to be in the city most of the time, but if I don’t see enough nature, I go crazy. And this isn’t just theoretical. When I’ve spent time in infamous “concrete jungle” cities, I’ve been very bummed out by the lack of green.

So Central Park fulfills a fantasy for me. It makes me able to imagine a life as a total city girl – with an escape hatch. Oh, what I wouldn’t give for one of those wonderful apartments overlooking the park. Heck, I’d even take a studio within walking distance.

I decided it would be fun to dedicate an image quiz to Central Park, and I hunted down the most beautiful Central Park images by indie photographers that I could find. (Don’t worry – as always the artists are always compensated for being featured on Blogthings!) Anyway, I hope you have as much fun taking this quiz as I did writing it: The Central Park Test

Comment and let me know how you liked this one. Did it describe you well? Are you as big of as Central Park fan as I am?

The Dance Test

Do you fancy yourself a good dancer? I’m an amazing dancer… in my mind! I am always inspired by dancers I see, but I’m definitely not coordinated enough to dance well. (My best dance is called “yoga”.) I wish I could have practiced ballet more as a young girl, but I was always at the bottom of my class. It didn’t help that I was one of the tallest girls in the class as well (even though I’m average height now). Sometimes I try to tap into my love of dance with ballet workout videos, and who knows? Maybe I’ll take a ballet class for adults one day.

Even if I can’t be a ballerina, I would like to be better at dancing in public. I really freeze up at weddings and clubs, and it bugs me! I really wish I could bust a move or too, but I just end up feeling silly. I really envy all the people who just put it all out there on the dance floor, regardless of whether they’re good dancers or not. It almost doesn’t matter whether you’re a good dancer, as long as you have the confidence to back it up.

So, anyway, I decided to dedicate my latest quiz to my love of dance: The Dance Test – give it a whirl and let me know what you get. Does it fit your personality? I hope it inspires you to dance a little, even if just in private.

I had a lot of fun writing this quiz, and I hope you enjoy your result. The images just totally spoke to me for some reason 🙂 Sometimes that happens – I get the ideas from the images rather than finding images for my idea. Some of my favorite quizzes are born that way.

What about you? Do you love to dance? I’m curious to know how many of you took dance classes when you were younger and if you’ve held on to that talent over the years.

The Adventure Test

Do you love adventure… or at least dream of it? I think we all do. I’ve noticed that for myself, my idea of adventure has changed over time. When I was younger, I used to dream of the places I could move to and visit. I traveled to some exciting places like rural Uruguay, mainland China, and the New Zealand coast. Later on, I really got into adventure sports. I enjoyed pushing myself physically and mentally. I remember how much of a thrill I got repelling down a cliff and tubing with glowworms.

Now I seek adventure in chiller ways. I think life is a grand adventure, and I like to take smaller every day risks like starting a new art project or trying to cook a new cuisine. Maybe one day I will get back to my globetrotting, adrenaline seeking ways, but this is not the phase of life for that. I make sure to find small adventures every day though. Adventure is not about where you go or how many bragging rights you get for what you’re doing. It’s about trying something new and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

I thought it would be fun to do a quiz that matches up personalty types with adventure pictures. So, here you go! The Adventure Test All you need to do is pick the image of the adventure that appeals to you the most, and you’ll get some interesting feedback on your personality. Depending on the day, any of these adventures could appeal to me.

Comment below, and let me know what you think of your result from The Adventure Test. Does it fit you well? Also please tell me what your greatest adventure has been so far. It can be anything from traveling the world to changing schools 🙂
