Whew! The holidays are almost over. How are you surviving? I’m a bit tired, but I’m doing well. I love the end of the holidays, actually, when all the pressure of family events and gift exchanges is over. I enjoy having a few extra days of rest before the new year, and I enjoy New Year’s Eve more and more every year.
When I was younger, I used to say that New Year’s Eve was the most overrated holiday, but I don’t feel that way any longer. I don’t think you have to go out and have a traditional New Year’s Eve to have a fun time. Some of my best New Year’s Eves have been spent at home with people I care about. These days Mr. Blogthings and I usually go see some live theater on New Year’s Eve downtown. It’s cool to be out in the world with everyone else while doing something a little different.
What about you? Do you like to do anything special for New Year’s Eve? And for special, I mean anything from ordering Chinese food and watching the ball drop on TV to going to a big gala in the middle of the city. What makes this night special for you?
I was thinking about all the things that people may do on New Year’s Eve, and there are a lot of choices out there. And whatever you choose has got to say something about you. Take my latest quiz to find out: What Do Your New Year’s Plans Say About You? Let me know what you get and if it’s true for you.

Awwww…. yeah! Happy 2013!!! Who’s excited that we’re finally here? I know I am. The world didn’t end, and I’m ready to kick butt in 2013 😉
As I mentioned before, I am not really one for specific new year’s resolutions. And from what everyone else reading this blog says, they agree. I personally feel like resolutions are too inflexible and set me up for failure. Do you agree? I do like to set the tone for each year, as I feel it to at least be helpful for getting back to work once the holidays are over 🙂
So for me, I feel like 2013 is going to be a year of doing a good amount of work (Blogthings!), fixing up the house, saving money, deepening friendships, and eating more fruits and veggies. No resolutions, but I know what I’m working on and prioritizing. Are you the same way?
For me, the quiz What New Year’s Resolution Should You Make? is still useful. It actually reminds me what may be missing in my 2013 plans (travel!) and helps me find some balance. (In previous years I got that I should reduce stress, which was true at the time.) I’m the type of person who would work all the time if I could. Luckily I have a result like this to remind me of the bigger picture and balance. I love to work, but I have to remember why I do it… to produce, create, have fun, and live my life to the fullest.
Take What New Year’s Resolution Should You Make?, and let me know what you get. Even if you don’t resolve to do whatever your result says, I’m curious to know how spot on it is for you. What do you think 2013 has in store for you? What little tweak could you make to improve your life?
Happy New Year! I really love this time of year, as cheesy as my sentiments may be. I truly feel like each new year is a fresh start, and I think we’re all ready for a fresh start about now. 2012 was a pretty good year for me, and I’m hoping that 2013 will be even better 🙂
Over the years I’ve celebrated the new year in a variety of ways… everything from a rave (oh, the 90s!) to a chill evening at home with television. Over the years, Mr. Blogthings and I have found a bit of a happy medium. We got out, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. We are almost always back home before midnight, but at least we feel like we got out in the world and celebrated a bit. It certainly helps now that we live in a warmer climate. I used to be more of a homebody when faced with a freezing New Year’s Eve.
So of course, all this got me thinking about a favorite quiz: How Should You Spend New Year’s Eve? Just in case any of you are on the fence, it will tell you what to do 🙂 I have a feeling your New Years plans are probably set at this point, but if you don’t have plans yet (and wish that you did), I encourage you to be spontaneous.
Take How Should You Spend New Year’s Eve?, and let me know what you get. Also, I’m curious to know what meaning this holiday has for you, if any. A lot of friends have told me that they built New Year’s Eve up so much over the years that it always ended up being a disappointment. I personally feel very romantic about this holiday, and I completely blame watching When Harry Met Sally as I was growing up!
Well, it’s almost time to ring in 2012! How did your year go? I had an awesome year! I had so much fun working on Blogthings, and I even got a little time to learn about psychology and programming. Maybe the only thing missing was a vacation or two… 😉 It’s so hard to fit everything into a year, that’s for sure. I hope that you had a great 2012 and will have an even better 2013.
If you were going to give your year a grade, what grade would it be? Take my latest quiz to find out: How Would You Grade Your Year? Comment below and let me know what you got. Also, let me know what you would grade your year. What made your year good, and what do you think could be improved upon next year?
I suppose if I had to think about it, I would rank my year a “B” – I think there is always room for improvement, especially self-improvement. If early results for How Would You Grade Your Year? are any indicator, it seems like many of you agree. I think a solid “B” or “C” is a good year. An “A” is a fantastic year – don’t get many of those. And if you get a “D” or “F”, well, let’s just say I bet you’re looking forward to a fresh start next year.
If you’ve been a longtime Blogthings fan, you may remember a quiz similar to this one: How Did Your Year Rate? I think the new quiz is a big improvement, but you may disagree. If you have time, take both and tell me what you think 🙂 I’m also curious to know if you got a similar score on both or very different scores. I like to double check myself. Oh, and early Happy New Year!!!
