Do you know a lot of hipsters? I do! I live in a very hipster neighborhood, which is a lot of fun. It’s amusing to see all of the hipsters hanging out at their favorite food trailer, 24 hour coffee shop, vintage clothing store, or record store. Not that there is anything wrong with those things, or even with being a hipster. I enjoy all of the things that hipsters like for the most part, but I swear, I’m definitely not a hipster 😉
I think “hipster” is sort of an insult, but as time goes on, it’s just more descriptive. I definitely don’t ever mean hipster to be a negative thing. If anything, I think it’s very cool to be into indie culture and to do your own thing. I think we need more subcultures in this world, so I embrace living in a hipster town like Austin.
And yes, living in Austin has let me observe a lot of hipster culture over the years, but to be honest, it’s really left me with more questions than answers. Like, what is a hipster? How do you essentialize it? Why won’t anyone admit to being a hipster? If you are an aging hipster, are you still a hipster? I don’t know the answers to any of these questions, but I sure know a hipster when I see one. I have to admit that I envy hipster style quite a bit. Must be nice to be young and beautiful enough to get away with crazy fashions.
I thought it would be amusing to poke a little fun at hipster culture, and I hope none of the self-proclaimed hipsters take offense at this quiz: What’s Your Hipster Name? It’s just a quickie, so please give it a try and let me know what your fun hipster name is. And I’m curious… do you know any hipsters? Do you consider yourself a hipster? What makes someone a hipster these days?
If you’ve spent a lot of time on Blogthings, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve written a lot of quiz “name generator” quizzes. I think these are a lot of fun for a quick fix, but to be honest, my true love is name psychology and in depth discussions of names. I think names are pretty interesting and important, and I do think your taste in names says a lot about you.
I know for myself, my taste in names is constantly evolving. I’m sure that it’s partially trend based (don’t you love how everyone names their kids the same thing all around the same time without knowing it), but I think there are also personality shifts happening for me. As I get older, I appreciate the idea of family names and traditional names more. When I was younger, my taste in names was definitely more modern.
Do you have a particular taste in names? Take my quiz: What Kind of Names Do You Like? to find out. Comment below and let me know what you get – and how accurate it is. I’m also curious, what are some of your favorite names? They can include your own name, relatives’ names, or simply names you like. (I have to admit that I’m rather fond of my name at this point in my life, but I hated it as a teenager because it was always mispronounced.)
One other thing – I know that this quiz is very Anglosphere focused, but that’s only because it’s the only culture where I’m super familiar with names (except for maybe a little Scandinavian, since that’s my heritage). Anyway, if you have different sorts of names in your family or different sorts of names you prefer, I’d love to hear about them! I’m dying to know what sort of names everyone likes, if only to get a few new favorites myself 🙂
Have you ever wondered what your name would be if you were born in China? I decided to write a little quiz to help you out: What’s Your Chinese Name?
Longtime Blogthings quiz takers will notice that this name quiz is a departure from my old way of doing things. I hope you like it! It is more personality based, and hopefully the name you get will truly fit you.
Comment below, and let me know what you think of this new type of name quiz!
Don’t you just love Welsh names? I really do. Even though I don’t know what they mean without looking them up, I feel like Welsh names just capture the beauty and the poetry of the Welsh language so well.
I just love Jane Austen’s works in all their forms – I’ll take a novel, an adaptation, a novel based on Jane Austen… you get the idea 🙂 I adore going back to a simpler time but also seeing how things haven’t changed. And one thing that hasn’t changed is great classic names.
Have you ever dreamed of being a cowboy or cowgirl? As someone who grew up in the Mountain West, I’ve always found it easy to idealize cowboys and cowgirls. In fact, I’ve known a few in my time. All that being said, I’m not sure that I could actually be one. I’m sort of afraid of horses 🙂
While I am a bit nervous when I think about being a cowgirl, I am pretty sure that I would love it when I got used to it. Especially if Mr. Blogthings was riding along side with me. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to wake up with a beautiful view of the countryside, especially surrounded by animals. Also, I love cowboy and cowgirl food like chili.
I’m not ready to sign up for horseback riding lessons yet, but I can live out my cowgirl dreams in a few ways. First of all, since I live in Texas now, it’s totally reasonable to put on some cowgirl boots whenever I feel like it. And visiting a ranch? Sign me up, especially if there’s some good beer, live music, and dinner involved. Or if I just want a taste of the cowgirl life, I’m happy to go on a hike somewhere out in the mountains. Just standing out and overlooking a vista can make me feel like I’m in the Wild West.
Do you want to know what your cowboy or cowgirl name would be? Take my quiz to find out! What’s Your Cowboy or Cowgirl Name? Let me know what you get on this quiz and if you like your result.
