New Quiz: What Makes You Adorable?

collection of cream puffs
What do people adore about you?

Are you adorable? I like to think we’re all adorable in our own way. In fact, I think it’s the mark of a psychologically healthy person to find quirks adorable instead of annoying. Whenever someone I’m close to starts to annoy me, I try to remember that quirks or little differences are what make us unique. If you have the right frame of mind, so much that the people we love do can be considered adorable.

Even if you don’t consider yourself adorable, I bet there is at least someone who does. The great thing about being adorable is that it just means that someone finds you charming or delightful. While not all of us always feel attractive or lovable (whether you’re in a relationship or not doesn’t seem to matter for this), I think we can all be adorable.

I find a lot of things adorable in others, but probably the number one thing is genuineness. When someone is comfortable with being him or herself, I love that. Extra points if the person in question is a bit quirky or different. People who adore themselves are adorable. Simple as that. What’s not adorable? People who try too hard to in order to impress others. There is nothing charming about pretention!

Thinking about all of the different things I find adorable led my latest quiz: What Makes You Adorable? I made this one an image quiz, and I tried to pick the most adorable images I could find…cream puffs! Also, they might make you a bit hungry. Sorry about that 🙂

  1. What do you get on What Makes You Adorable? Is it true for you?
  2. What trait(s) do you find adorable in others?

New Quiz: What’s Your Spirit Animal?

wolf in the forest howling
What animal guides you?

Do you have a spirit animal? A spirit animal is an animal that shares your traits. In particular, imagining your spirit animal is supposed to ground you, balance you, and lead you during difficult times. A spirit animal or power animal is a shamanistic concept that has been around for hundreds of years. The idea of adopting a spirit animal among non-shamans only became popular in the 1980s.

When someone suggested this quiz topic to me on Facebook, I immediately jumped on it. I am a huge animal lover. I also love the idea of anything that can sooth us or help us during difficult times. Spirit animals have been considered to be empowering and even essential for certain cultures. Everyone should have one 🙂

Some people say that the best way to find your spirit animal is through quiet reflection. I definitely recommend this approach if you feel like it would be useful. I have tried to do this myself from time to time, but I always draw a blank. (Unless my spirit animal is a monkey… and I kinda doubt that!)

So, as I like to say about Blogthings… “We have a quiz for that!” My latest quiz will help you figure out your spirit animal: What’s Your Spirit Animal? I based it on old fashioned, cross cultural animal meanings and significances. Even if the animal you get isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, hopefully this quiz will set you in the right direction.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What’s Your Spirit Animal? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you have an animal that you feel a strong kinship with?
  3. Who do you get along better with – animals or people?
  4. Have you ever rescued an animal?

New Quiz: What’s Your Soul’s Secret?

six different desert pictures
What is your soul hiding?

Do you have parts of yourself that no one sees? I think we all do. And despite a lot of research saying that the more we reveal, the happier we are – I’m not sure I agree. Maybe it’s just how I was raised, but I’m skeptical of letting it all hang out. I think it’s good to have boundaries and privacy. I am definitely not one of those people who finds it easy to bare my soul, but maybe it would be better for me if I were a little more open about my fears and shortcomings 🙂 Who knows?

No matter what, I think too much secrecy can be a bad thing. When we keep too much to our selves, we start to feel ashamed of who we are. Everyone has things they rather change about themselves, and keeping them away from the world can make them seem even worse then they are. Often times, when we open up, we can’t believe how many experiences, thoughts, and feelings we all share. And there’s something powerful in knowing that your friends and family accept the true you.

With all this in mind, I set out a quiz to figure out what each of us may be keeping private.  What’s Your Soul’s Secret? This image quiz will tell you what you’re keeping from the world, why you’re keeping it a secret, and what might happen if you freed your secret a bit.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What’s Your Soul’s Secret? Is it true for you?
  2. In general, do you feel like you reveal too much, too little, or the right amount?
  3. What common secret / feeling do you wish more people revealed?

New Quiz: What Makes You Well Rounded?

Four abstract round images
What is well rounded about you?

Are you a well rounded person? I try to be, but it’s definitely a challenge. There isn’t enough time in the day for work, staying healthy, seeing friends, traveling, having hobbies, and bettering one’s self. Whew! Even just going through that list is exhausting 🙂 As difficult as being well rounded is, it is definitely a goal of mine. I think that bringing more balance to my life would lead to less stress.

If you think about it, being in a rut is almost the opposite of being well-rounded. It’s getting too extreme and stuck in one place, and as a result, your life seems all about a few things. Realizing that connection made me see how living a well balanced life has a strong psychological component. There are reasons why some of us flourish. We draw strength from many sources, and we don’t leave all our eggs in one basket.

I spent some time today thinking about being well-rounded, and I decided that the most well rounded people I know have something that pushes them to maintain balance. For some people it’s introspection – realizing that something is a bit off in their lives and doing something about it. For others, it’s optimism – that feeling that things will work out, so why not go for something new?

Thinking about these topics lead me to write my latest quiz: What Makes You Well Rounded? Instead of measuring how well rounded you are, it celebrates what may already be making you well rounded. And if you don’t feel like a well rounded person lately, maybe it will show you how you can better achieve that 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What Makes You Well Rounded? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you consider yourself a well rounded person? Why or why not?
  3. What’s one way that most people could be a little more well rounded?

New Quiz: How Are You Out of This World?

four different windows looking out into outer space
What do you see when you look out into space?

Do you love to look out into space? I have to say that star gazing is one of my absolute favorite pastimes. Here in the city, I don’t always get the best view of the stars. Luckily, I do live in an urban neighborhood with very few streetlights, so I can see some stars most nights. And every so often I get a clear night when I can see many stars. On those nights, no matter how chilly or warm it is, I like to stand outside and look up for at least a few minutes.

Growing up in a small mountain town, I was able to see the stars almost every single night. I miss those quiet starry nights and the amazing things I was able to see. Seeing stars and the occasional planet is both thrilling and calming for me. When I can’t stargaze, I usually will watch a Dr. Who episode instead. I need to get my space fix somehow!

What about you? Do you find space as interesting or inspiring as I do? If I recall correctly, Blogthings has at least a few astronomy fans lurking about. My latest image quiz was inspired by the illustrations I found above – a collection of windows looking out into space. I felt like it would be fun to write a quiz that links your relationship with space to the image you choose. Here you go: How Are You Out of This World?

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on How Are You Out of This World? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you enjoy stargazing or astronomy as a hobby? How often do you do it?
  3. Would you like to travel to outer space? What part of space would you like to visit?

New Quiz: What Makes You Funky?

nine funky patterned images
What’s funky about you?

Are you a funky person? I think a lot of us are funky in our own way. You don’t have to be a freak to be funky – you just need to have it going on! There’s lots of ways to be unique, creative, and expressive. And I love how different we all are. I think geeks, artists, fashionistas, hardcore fans of anything, and nerds are all funky. Do you agree?

I was thinking about all the people I know and love, and they are all odd in their own way. I’m not sure if “normal” people even exist. I know there are averages that we all gravitate towards, but I think we are all a bit unique… often deliberately so. I always appreciate the funkiness in others, even if I don’t get their particular kind of funkiness. Differences are cool and should be celebrated!

In thinking about being funky, I tried to dig into what gives each of us that little something. I think it’s different depending on the person, but there is are underlying personality characteristics that make us all have a bit of flair. Some of us are more open and willing to embrace the world. Others are a little more confident and willing to let their “freak flag” fly. Something gives us all the courage to be a little different and truer to ourselves, and I thought it would be fun to write a quiz that explores that.

What about you? Do you consider yourself funky? Maybe just a little bit? Take my latest quiz What Makes You Funky? to learn the secret to your funkiness.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What Makes You Funky? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you consider yourself a funky person in any way?

New Quiz: The Sofa Test

White sofa in an alpine cabin
What does your sofa say about you?

I don’t know about you, but anytime I go to a huge furniture store, I’m overwhelmed by the number of options. Have you ever seen how many sofas there are at a place like IKEA? They have dozens of sofas to choose from, and it’s hard to take them all in at once. Crazy. And the even crazier thing is that with all the options, I often still can’t find a sofa I like.  It took Mr. Blogthings and I ages to find sofas we loved years ago, and I’m hoping they never wear out!

Sometimes when I see all the sofas that are available, I wonder who would ever buy some of them. Some really aren’t my style at all, and of course, it gets me thinking about the different type of sofa personalities. Big vs small, modern vs traditional, comfortable vs stylish… So many decisions wrapped up in one little furniture purchase. I tend to go for big and comfy, a little stylish if I can manage it. I really want to be one of those modern sofa buyers, but I can’t ever imagine sitting on one.

What about you? Do you agree that certain personalities may like certain types of sofas? Take The Sofa Test to learn what your ideal sofa says about you. I enjoyed writing this image quiz, dreaming up what each person who selected a particular was like. I hope you have as much fun taking it!

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Sofa Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you have a sofa that you love? Describe it.
  3. In general, how do you prefer to furnish your home? All at once with a certain style? Mix and match?
  4. What kind of fabric / upholstery do you prefer for a sofa? Leather? Microsuede? Cotton? Linen?

New Quiz: The Luxury Test

infinity pool looking out on the ocean
What do you consider luxurious?

Do you like luxury? I think we all do – at least in our own ways. I love luxury, but what I have considered luxurious has changed over the years. For me, luxury is less about showing off status or enjoying the finer things in life. These days it’s more about having time and resources to live my life on my own terms. I think eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch is quite luxurious if it means I’m doing what I enjoy… writing quizzes from my daybed or catching up with quiz takers on my sofa 🙂

Of course, before I got started with a luxury quiz, I had to do some research first. I found out a couple interesting things about luxury goods. The first is that they give us comfort, even when – especially when – we can’t afford them. Makes sense to me. A nice piece of clothing or meal is hard to resist when we’re feeling down.

Another study about luxury suggests that being around luxury goods (or what psychologists refer to as “being primed by”) makes us more self-interested.  In some extreme cases, we are more likely to make decisions that harm others when we’re around luxury.

Wow! So is luxury a bad thing? I don’t think so. I think it’s important to find little luxuries in life and to treat ourselves well. It’s up to us to keep our reactions in check (giving back is a good way of doing this) and to moderate. Do you agree?

I wanted to write a quiz that celebrated both the excess and moderation of luxury: The Luxury Test. This simple image quiz tells you how you would live an extreme life of luxury and also how you may do so already in moderation.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Luxury Test? Is it true for you?
  2. How do you feel about luxury in general?
  3. How do you treat yourself in little ways?

New Quiz: What Kind of Wings Does Your Heart Have?

set of four funky illustrated hearts
What kind of heart do you have?

Do you think your heart is unique and special? I think we all do, and we’re right. Some of us leap into love, even if we’ve been hurt before. Others of us are more careful, taking our time when we think we might connect with someone. I think there are many valid and healthy approaches to love, and I like to think of love styles in the same way I think about personality archetypes.

For some reason, I woke up this morning thinking about the four
temperaments. Are you familiar with them? They were originally developed by Hippocrates over two thousand years ago for medical purposes, but they have a wide influence today. If you’ve taken a personality typology test like Myers-Briggs or DiSC, you were basically taking a temperament test.  The four temperaments are sanguine (sociable and impulsive), choleric (ambitious and passionate), melancholic (thoughtful and considerate), and phlegmatic (relaxed and content). There’s already a quick quiz on Blogthings to test your temperament: What Temperament Are You?

While I’ve seen a lot of variations on the four temperaments in personality testing (and even written a few), I’ve never seen it applied to love styles… except when I do it 🙂 I’m sure it has been, but those instances seem far and few between. If you look at the types above, I think they match up perfectly with love types. Some of us are impulsive in love, passionate about love, thoughtful partners, or content with what we’ve got. Put a content and an impulsive person together, and someone is going to get hurt!

I decided to make my latest temperament one a quickie, and it all came together after I found four perfect images. Can the image you pick tell you your love temperament? I’m guessing yes: What Kind of Wings Does Your Heart Have? What do you get one this one? Does it fit your personality? Comment and let me know!

New Quiz: The Spring Flowers Test

collection of eight spring flowers
What spring flower do you like the best?

Spring is in the air! Can you feel it? Depending on where you live, you may feel like there’s no end to winter, that spring is just around the corner, or that spring is already here. Here at Blogthings HQ, we get a very early spring. It’s been feeling like spring for at least a few weeks now, and I love it. The flowers are in full bloom, and my favorite fruit trees are just starting to show major signs of life. I plan on enjoying this season fully before the mosquitos and 100+ degree temperatures come back.

Do you find spring as inspiring as I do? I think I’m most inspired in the spring and the fall, in very different ways. During the spring, I feel myself energizing, ramping up, and getting inspired. There’s so much newness to be excited about, and everyone else’s energy is quite contagious 🙂 In the fall, I’m more inspired to slow down, to take stock, and to deepen. But that’s a whole other quiz topic for a whole other time.

The changing of the seasons inspired me to write a new quiz, and I decided to do an image quiz this time. If you’re not familiar with how an image quiz works, it’s very simple. Just select the image you like best, and you’ll automagically get your quiz result. The perfect break for the middle of a busy week 🙂 Anyway, here’s the quiz: The Spring Flowers Test I hope you enjoy my celebration of spring! I hope it encourages you to get out a bit and bask in the changing of the seasons.

What did you get on The Spring Flowers Test? Comment and let me know. Do you feel like your result fits you? Does it feel like spring yet in your neck of the woods?
