Quiz: The Tree Test

tree alone in the desert
What does your favorite tree say about you?

Do you like trees? I am a huge tree fan, and I feel lucky to live in a city with a ton of trees that are protected from development. Little puts me more at ease than walking through my tree filled neighborhood, observing how each of my favorite trees is changing with the seasons. I am also a bit of a birdwatcher, and of course, trees are a perfect place to see beautiful birds flying around.

Trees have always had a deep meaning to various cultures, and I can understand why. At its core, a tree symbolizes strength and growth. Forests are seen as both a mystery and a refuge. They are also a place of change as many characters in books and movies undergo something transformative in the middle of the forest. There’s a lot to trees, and it doesn’t surprise me that we humans enjoy being around them so much.

My love of trees inspired me to write The Tree Test, especially when I found such a great array of varied yet complementary tree images. What I love about this image set is that the images all have a similar style but huge variations on tree type and season. See what the one you like says about you!

New Quiz: The Halftone Test

nine halftone images
Which halftone image best fits you? Pick the one you like to hear about the dark and light sides of your personality.

Ever since I discovered what they were, I’ve been a huge fan of Halftone images. They are images that use different techniques of black and white shading to look continuous to the human eye. From far away they may just look gray, but up close, they are interesting and intricate. Halftone was originally used in print, and of course, it doesn’t have much use in the digital world of unlimited colors. Still, I think the patterns are very cool – and I’m partial to anything with black and white.

So when I discovered these cool halftone images (see above), I knew I had to use them in a quiz. Black and white gives me a chance to play off the light and dark sides of a personality, which I love to do. Some people might find this too negative, and while Blogthings generally emphasizes strengths, I like to look at the flip side of things too. (Hardcore personality theory geeks: I based this quiz off the enneagram, and feel free to guess / ask what your number type was supposed to be.)

Anyway, give The Halftone Test a whirl, and let me know what you think of your result 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Halftone Test? Is it true for you?
  2. What sort of black and white patterns do you like? Bold contrasts? Or more subtle pin striping?
  3. Is there any part of design that interests you? Typography? Color theory? Fashion design? Cake design? I feel like we’re all a kind of arty bunch here, so I’d like to know where your interests lie.
  4. Take The Retro Pattern Test. What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: The Vintage Card Test

four different vintage cards each with flowers
What vintage card best represents your personality? Take my image quiz to find out.

Do you like vintage things? I definitely do, although I’m more of a vintage window shopper than a vintage collector at this point. I’d like to change that one day, but for now, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to have nice things! I do buy some vintage inspired stuff, and I especially love vintage inspired clothes. If I had my druthers, I’d like to collect vintage art and furniture – but it’s not practical for me right now. I’m not sure it goes well with having a rowdy dog and hectic life 🙂

My love of vintage things is not the only thing I love about the past. I love old literature, movies, manners, recipes, and customs. Were there some sociological things about the past that I wouldn’t want now? Of course! But I feel like history can be a fun escape, and it’s one that I enjoy. From watching Mad Men to Downton Abbey, I like imaging what life was like for the people who came before me.

One of the things from the past that I like to incorporate in my life is cards and stationary. I try to send a hand written note or letter whenever I can. So when I came across a few gorgeous vintage card illustrations, I knew I wanted to do a quiz with them. The Vintage Card Test not only tells you about your personality – it also tells you how you’re polite and old fashioned. Let me know what you get on this one… and if anyone’s curious, I based it on the classic four temperaments but made them a bit more genteel 😉

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Vintage Card Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you like vintage things? What kinds?
  3. What era of vintage do you like the best?
  4. When was the last time you sent someone a card?
  5. Take The Card Test What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: The Quilt Test

nine different patterned quilts
Which quilt do you like best? And what does it say about you?

Do you have a quilt that you love? I wish I had a homemade quilt that I loved! My aunt has a large collection of them that she got from her mother-in-law, and they are so beautiful. I love the art form of quilt making, even though it seems like a lot of work. (Any quilt makers or aspiring quilt makers in the house? Comment and let me know!)

While I don’t have a favorite quilt, I am a huge blanket person. I have a freakish amount of blankets to choose from depending on my mood and the temperature outside. I’m the type of person who likes to cuddle up with a blanket even if it’s 105F outside. And I’ve been a bad influence on my dog – making him more and more comfortable beds with tons of blankets piled up. He is a bit high maintenance when it comes to bedding now.

I recently came across some really beautiful quilt illustrations (pictured above), and I was inspired to turn them into an image quiz. Now I know that the idea of a warm quilt isn’t exactly seasonally appropriate in the Northern Hemisphere, but I just had to write it anyway! Pick the image you like best on The Quilt Test, and let me know what you think of your result below.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Quilt Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you have a favorite blanket or quilt? What is it like?
  3. When it comes to decorating your house, what sort of patterns and colors do you go for?
  4. How many blankets and pillows do you sleep with?
  5. Take What Does Your Bed Say About You? What do you think of your result?

New Quiz: The Owl Test

five colorful hand draw owls
Which of these owls do you like best? And what does it say about your personality?

When was the last time you saw an owl? I don’t see many owls living in the city, but if I get up early enough I’ll often see a barn owl at sunrise during my morning walks. And since it’s getting warmer out, I am going on walks earlier and earlier. So seeing an owl may just been in the cards for me.

I love owls – they’re so beautiful, mysterious, and even spooky. I was thinking about doing an owl themed quiz for a while, and I so happen to know that at least one of our readers is a huge owl fan. I’d love to do a quiz about owl types as far as personality goes, but I haven’t found or done any research on this yet. So I was instead inspired to do an owl image quiz after buying some great owl drawings by an independent artist. Each of the owls above immediately seemed to have distinct personalities to me. Do you agree?

Pick the owl you like best in The Owl Test, and see what it says about your personality. I tried to keep each outcome as owl inspired as possible, so I added bits in about your relationship to night and solitude – the two things owls are known for. Let me know what you think of your result, and owls in general, below.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Owl Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you see owls often? If so, where do you see them?
  3. Are you nocturnal like an owl? Or are you more of a day person?
  4. Owls are known for preferring solitude. Are you the same way?
  5. Take What’s Your Power Bird? Do you happen to get owl as a result? Or something else?

New Quiz: The Hat Test

collection of six hats
What sort of hat are you, and what does it say about your personality?

Do you wear a hat? I have to admit that I’m more of a hat fan than an actual hat wearer. I love the way that hat look, and I think they are one of the best accessories around. I’m an aspiring hat wearer, but I’m not sure I have the style and confidence to pull of an assortment if hats. I’m afraid of looking silly or wearing the wrong one. Also, I’m not sure if I’m conscientious enough to wear hats. I’m pretty sure I’d leave them places.

My reluctance to wear a hat probably says a bit about my personality (flaky) and fashion style (ultra casual). And I’m sure whatever hat I wore would reflect my personal style. After all, aren’t beret and fedora people different? And what about people who wear cowboy hats? Or vintage hats? I love to think of all the different personalities.

Thinking about hats led me to my latest quiz, The Hat Test. Now I know there are some gentlemen in the group, so obviously you would be be picking the hat that would look best on a lady. And your result will still be gender neutral. (It was hard for me to find unisex hat pictures that I liked, but I am sure I will write a quiz with more male friendly options in the future.) Comment below and let me know what you think of your result… and hats in general 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Hat Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you wear a hat / hats? How often? What kind?
  3. For you, are hats more fashionable or practical?
  4. How would you describe your fashion style?
  5. The one type of hat that I can’t avoid wearing is a winter hat? What about you? What Winter Hat Are You?

New Quiz: The Beach Postcard Test

six different beach postcards
What beach postcard would you send?

Do you love the beach? I do. I will admit that I’m a bit of a weirdo when it comes to my beach preferences. I like gray and cold over sunny and warm. (Though sunny and warm is quite nice as well!) I love to walk along the ocean, stare out at the waves, and just contemplate things. My favorite beach is an isolated beach – like the ones you get in New England during the winter.

I was thinking about the beach recently and missing it, since I haven’t been in a few months. Yup, the last time I went to the beach was in winter. I’m just crazy that way! Anyway, I don’t know about you, but there’s only so much time I can go without my beach time. I feel a bit landlocked without seeing the ocean. It’s not surprising that beach destinations are some of the most popular in the world.

Even though I only live a half day’s drive from the beach here in Texas, I don’t have time to get away right now. So I decided to do the next best thing – write myself a quiz. And of course share it with you all. If you’re missing the beach as much as I am, you may really enjoy The Beach Postcard Test. Pick the postcard of your ideal beach vacation, and see what it says about you. And please comment below to discuss your result.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Beach Postcard Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Have you been to the beach before? When was the last time you went to the beach?
  3. What’s your favorite beach activity? Are you more of an active or a relaxation type?
  4. If you could visit any beach in the world, which one would you choose?

Quiz: The Blue Skies Test

six different blue skies
Which of these blue skies speaks to you?

Do you love blue skies? I do love them, although I love all sorts of skies – rainy, cloudy, stormy, sunrises, sunsets. Lately I have been living under gray skies, which is really odd for this part of the world. And when the blue sky finally came out, I felt a bit livelier. Gray and dark skies make me focus, but blue skies make me celebrate. And I was definitely ready for some celebrating.

Growing up as a young girl, I experienced more blue skies than most people. In my hometown, it would even rain or snow with a mostly clear sky. I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I left. Now I know that people in many parts of the world can go for days or weeks without a blue sky in site. And while I do amazing amounts of work under a blanket of gray (especially when it’s cold), I do miss blue skies after a while. The color and brightness always cheers me right up, and I love to look at the dramatic cloud formations.

Rediscovering my love of blue skies made me want to feature a favorite quiz: The Blue Skies Test. We’ve done some programming upgrades on this one to make your experience go a bit more smoothly. Let me know what you get and what you think of this quiz. I know it’s hard to pick just one image, so go ahead and pick a second choice if you’d like 🙂

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Blue Skies Test? Is it true for you?
  2. What kind of skies do you prefer? Blue skies? Gray skies? Stormy skies?
  3. What time of day do you like the sky the best?
  4. What’s your favorite place in the world to observe a “big sky”?

New Quiz: The Funky Wall Test

four different bold interior walls
What wall are you?

This is an odd question, but do you have a wall of your house or office that you really like? As much as I try to be an outdoors person, I find so much coziness inside. In particular, I like my modern little writing nook with a little day bed, laptop, and piles of books. And one of the things I like best about it is the blue wall in front of me with a huge black and white poster of Central Park in the winter.

Walls comfort me (and even inspire me) if they are interesting enough. I love a colorful mural, collage, or industrial backdrop. While big windows are nice (and I kind of want those too!), a wall can be more practical – and adaptable. Plus, walls don’t expose you to the elements and the whole world. They build up boundaries and defenses, which can be quite calming.

Do you think a lot about the walls around you, or are they simply just shelter? I used to not pay so much attention to the walls around me, but I’m getting more into decorating and personalizing them. It’s fun to be surrounded by colors and art that I love. I may not have the cool brick walls of an urban loft space, but I’m still kind of amazed by what a coat of paint can do.

My latest quiz, The Funky Wall Test, was inspired by some very cool wall pictures I found. See what the one you pick says about you, and feel free to discuss my result (and all things wall) with me below.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Funky Wall Test? Is it true for you?
  2. What do the walls in your home look like? Painted? With pictures or posters? Something else?
  3. What sort of exterior or interior walls do you like best on buildings? Red brick? Stone? Marble? Metal?
  4. Do you have a favorite poster or picture in your home?

New Quiz: The Cereal Test

six different bowls of cereal
What kind of cereal are you?

Do you love breakfast cereal? I was addicted to it as a kid. I had it every morning for breakfast, often while watching cartoons (which often had commercials for the cereal I was eating). It was an integral part of my childhood, and I don’t think I outgrew cereal for breakfast until I was in my late teens. I’ll still have it occasionally for a quick fix or craving.

As an adult, I still like breakfast cereal just as much. I have switched from having it first thing in the morning to last thing at night. For some reason, a bowl of cereal is the nighttime snack I crave most… especially while I’m watching TV. I have asked around, and it seems like I’m not the only one with this unusual midnight snack craving.

Of course, many of us think that the cereal you choose has a lot to do with your personality. I tend to agree. My cereal choice has changed along with me over the years. When I was younger, I liked more sugary choices. As a older kid, I liked plainer cereal and lots of it. As I got into adulthood, and more responsible, I choose more whole grain type cereals.

What about you? Do you love cereal and think your choice says something about you? Take The Cereal Test to find out.

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on The Cereal Test? Is it true for you?
  2. Do you eat cereal? Do you eat it for breakfast? Or like me, do you eat it more as a snack?
  3. What was your favorite cereal as a kid? Do you have the same favorite as an adult?
  4. And since breakfast cereal and cartoons go so well together, what was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
