Have you ever wondered if you are middle class? With the election season gearing up, “middle class” is a term that we are starting to hear a lot… but no one ever defines it. I see a lot of people online asking “Am I middle class?” – and I get it, it’s something I wonder about myself as well.
When writing this quiz, I tried to find a definition of the middle class that people agreed upon. And let me tell you, no such thing exists. I decided to not go with income, because I feel like income norms are based a lot on factors that are hard to account for – like age and where you life. Also what constitutes a middle class income is always changing, and in my opinion, it seems to be rising very quickly!
So given that income was out, I decided to look at other factors that traditionally make someone middle class. In a nutshell, a lot of this comes down to comfort and safety. If you live a fairly comfortable and stable life, you are probably middle class. But if you take more risks in your life, either by choice or by necessity, you are probably something different than middle class. And that’s super cool too! (Read up on “class X” if you need more convincing of this).
