What City Should You Spend Christmas Eve In?

Happy Christmas Eve! I hope that wherever you are in the world, you’re having a great day – whether you celebrate Christmas or not. This is not only one of my favorite days of the holiday season… it’s one of my favorite days of the year. I love all of the anticipation building toward Christmas and New Year’s. But I also love that many shops and businesses are still open. I think there’s a great holiday energy in the air on Christmas Eve.

I sometimes imagine how fun it would be to spend Christmas Eve in a quaint little European village. It would be so fun to shop at all the shops for last minute gifts and meal additions. I also wouldn’t mind spending Christmas Eve in a bustling big city with tons of fun things to do. I am not even sure that I want to travel much during the holidays, but I do dream of being teleported to another place for Christmas Eve sometimes.

No holiday travel for me this year, so I’ll be enjoying Christmas Eve here in Austin. It’s a little sleepy with the students gone, which is nice. And it will be warm enough for me to enjoy my garden. I make two signature pasta dishes on Christmas Eve – one green and one red. It’s also when Mr. Blogthings and I open up new pajamas 🙂

Amsterdam/Munich (and a degree of Edinburgh)

You Are Christmas Eve (I’m not exactly optimistic or idealistic)

I’d love to spend Christmas Eve somewhere where the spirit of Christmas (both the fun and spiritual) is all over the neighborhood, not just parts of it.

Just recently I found a top 10 best small towns for Christmas list with one neighborhood (Hampden Balitimore) where all the neighbors partake in a Christmas festival production.

What do you think?
