Happy Friday, y’all! Have you been working hard this week? I sure have. I’m looking forward to a weekend of relaxation – which just so happens to be this week’s Friday Five theme. I haven’t really had a chance to rest since the holidays, and maybe it’s the same deal for you. I swear, I’m going to get some R&R in this weekend for sure 😉 Going along with the theme of relaxation, I have the most amazing gift to giveaway – courtesy of a very generous longtime Blogthings fan. Blogthings has the best fans. Seriously.
This week I’m giving away $100 worth of gift cards to SpaFinder to the lucky winner. All you have to do to enter is comment below and answer the Friday Five. I will run a random number generator on Monday morning and pick the winner that way. (Due to some of our visitors having technical difficulties with the storm in the Northeast, I’m keeping the contest open all weekend.) I will comment on the thread to the person who won, so you can check back to see who won that way. If you miss it, I will announce the winner on Facebook and also next week in the P.S.
In case you’re unfamiliar with it, SpaFinder is gift service that works at over 20,000 spas and fitness centers worldwide. There are quite a few participating spas in my city – and probably in your city as well. This sweet gift can be used for a spa treatment, yoga classes, private pilates sessions… the choices are basically endless. And the SpaFinder gift card never expires, so you could also use it for travel. Thanks again to the very awesome person who donated this gift for someone else to enjoy.
So, here are the Friday Five questions for this week. Simply answer below in a comment to enter

light comedies or romcoms float my boat.

It’s wonderful; I’ve only been once (on my Honeymoon <3) but I'd love to go again.

Swimming definitely; singing is also super relaxing for me. It helps me destress and center myself.
What sort of book or movie do you like to relax with?
Honestly I read a lot of philosophy books in my relaxation time; I don't get a lot of intellectual stimulation at work, so having something deep on which to focus helps me to calm down my nerves and put that energy to good use. I watch Charlie Chaplin films to relax; I have a few favorites I seem to lean towards (The Great Dictator and City Lights) because no matter how rough my day has been, Chaplin can always make me laugh and escape my troubles.
Karaoke! That is definitely relaxing… at least if you can get over the stage fright 😉
1.What do you think of going to a spa for relaxation?

I usually eat supper, then go to bed and read and listen to music (Pandora-Adele) until I fall asleep.

Usually, If I don’t have to work, I listen to music, watch movies with my ma and my kitty Berthah.

2. How do you relax on weeknights? On nights when my hubby works, I just curl up with my puppies on the couch and listen to my favorite music – after getting homework out of the way, of course. Otherwise, the hubs and I watch an episode of MST3K and go to bed.
3. How do you relax on weekends? I love hanging out with my friends – we do everything from the county fair to checking out the new restaurant in the area. On a typical Sunday, however, my hubby and I like to take in a movie at the dollar theater or go to thrift shops or the local used book/movie/music store. That’s always fun.

What do you think of going to a spa for relaxation?
– I miss the old day spa I used to go to, and think it would be fun to have a spa getaway.
How do you relax on weeknights?
– I work in the afternoons/evenings, so nighttime relaxation tends to consist of reading or playing casual games.
How do you relax on weekends?
– Reading and playing casual or console games. Sometimes, I’ll listen to a marathon of a favorite show or check out a show on Netflix.
Is there a physical activity like yoga, walking, or swimming that you find relaxing?
– My first choice is dancing, but I also enjoy yoga and walking. But I have a form of chronic tendinitis in my foot, and that makes physical activity challenging more often not. 🙁
What sort of book or movie do you like to relax with?
– I’m all about science fiction and fantasy (mostly YA and/or urban/dystopian), but I do enjoy manga and animation.
Casual games can be so relaxing! I sneak them in as much as I can as well 🙂
What do you think of going to a spa for relaxation?
– Going to the spa is a wonderful treat. My first and only time at a spa was right before my wedding in October (2012). It was a great day of pampering and tranquility with one of my most dear friends. If I could make it to the spa more often, I definitely would, and I think everyone should be able to experience such relaxation at some point in their lives!
How do you relax on weeknights?
– Being a college student, relaxation on the weeknights is sometimes difficult to fit into my schedule, but each night I always make sure to sip some herbal tea, contemplate about the day I’ve just had, and find a few moments to either read, write or draw. Doing these things brings me peace.
How do you relax on weekends?
– On the weekends, my husband and I will sleep in a bit and make breakfast together. I also usually try to find some time to take a hot bath/shower with the lights off and candles lit. Sometimes, I’ll go for a walk by myself taking photos along the way.
Is there a physical activity like yoga, walking, or swimming that you find relaxing?
– I love yoga and swimming, but don’t get to partake in them often. My go to activities are walking/hiking. I like to do so while exploring beautiful (new and old) places. I love nature and I cherish the moments I can interact with my environment.
What sort of book or movie do you like to relax with?
– I love inspirational books that help you gain self-confidence and perspective, as well as poetry and novels about years gone by. I’m a romantic at heart, so any movie that can tug at my heart strings is wonderful.
Thank you for this opportunity! Wishing all a wonderful Friday! Hopefully, we can all find some relaxation at some point today!

Putting on loud music and dancing is definitely the best!
I’m not really entering this time but I will say that what makes me truly relax is silence and being still. Well, a hot soak and a massage are pretty good too.
Psychological studies would back you up on the quiet and stillness. It’s definitely something I need to get more of into my life 🙂

How do you relax on weekends?
Hang out with friends, go to a movie, go shopping.

What sort of book or movie do you like to relax with?
Something featuring whatever favorite actor or actress I have at the time. Currently it’s Jeremy Renner and Norman Reedus. Anything with them in it.
Ha! I never would have thought that about krav maga, but it makes sense… catharsis 😉
