Is breakfast your favorite meal of the day? I will be the first to admit that I am not a natural breakfast eater. I just don’t like the taste of eggs, and that really limits my breakfast selection. Over the years, however, I have made my peace with breakfast and actually enjoy it. Homemade granola and yogurt are my jam, but I also enjoy fruit, homemade bread, oatmeal, bagels, and even the occasional breakfast taco or burrito. I guess it’s pretty clear that I love carbs.
More than the food at breakfast, I really love the vibe of breakfast if done right. I like a slow breakfast on a quiet morning, even I (especially) if I cook it. I find it really relaxing to have a lazy morning that starts with tea, and eventually evolves to some breakfast getting fixed. Maybe some music is playing. Breakfast may be served a little later than usual, but that’s okay because it can be bigger than usual in that case.
Of course, a nice breakfast doesn’t have to involve eating at home. I also like being at a cozy diner or hole in the wall spot at the crack of dawn. Or heck, even right before dawn. There’s a real sweetness to being at a place that’s buzzing when the rest of the world is quiet. These are some of the breakfasts that I remember most fondly.
