What Bold Color Are You?

Do you love bold colors? I do! When I need a pick me up or a boost of confidence, I always turn toward bold colors. In particular, I like the bold colors that are more deep and saturated, as opposed to being simply bright.

When I was thinking about those saturated, bold colors that inspire me most, they all come from nature. There’s nothing better than a deep ocean blue or a bright fire red, as far as I’m concerned. Needless to say, these gorgeous natural colors were the basis of my latest quiz: What Bold Color Are You?

If you enjoy nature or simply appreciate bold colors, than this quiz is for you! This quiz stays true to the color archetypes we all know and love, but the more natural bend may give you a bit of new insight. While writing this quiz, I really became aware of all the ways people can be bold, and I hope it helps you discover your inner boldness!

Quiz: The Tree Test

What does your favorite tree say about you?

Do you like trees? I am a huge tree fan, and I feel lucky to live in a city with a ton of trees that are protected from development. Little puts me more at ease than walking through my tree filled neighborhood, observing how each of my favorite trees is changing with the seasons. I am also a bit of a birdwatcher, and of course, trees are a perfect place to see beautiful birds flying around.

Trees have always had a deep meaning to various cultures, and I can understand why. At its core, a tree symbolizes strength and growth. Forests are seen as both a mystery and a refuge. They are also a place of change as many characters in books and movies undergo something transformative in the middle of the forest. There’s a lot to trees, and it doesn’t surprise me that we humans enjoy being around them so much.

My love of trees inspired me to write The Tree Test, especially when I found such a great array of varied yet complementary tree images. What I love about this image set is that the images all have a similar style but huge variations on tree type and season. See what the one you like says about you!

New Quiz: Do You Get Enough Nature?

Are you spending enough time outside?

Do you love being in nature? I do, at leaste if the weather is alright. There’s nothing that clears my head or invigorates me more than a hike or walk through a green place. In fact, when I don’t get enough time in nature, I tend to notice that I’m grumpy and sluggish. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Numerous psychological studies have show that being out in nature is good for us. Spending time in nature helps us let go of stress and focus. Nature makes us feel more alive, and it increases our resilience. Being near or in nature has been known to energize us as well.

The good news about spending time in nature is that you don’t have to be out in the forest or ocean to get nature’s benefits. Even being around some plants or a nice view can give us a boost. I try to remember this when I don’t have time for the full nature experience. Just hanging around in my small garden or a park is enough to make me feel renewed.

So yeah, you don’t have to be an extreme sports, off the beaten path type to get your daily nature fix. All it takes is a commitment to being outside a bit. But that can be hard to remember in our hectic lives to take time to breathe a little fresh air. That’s why I wrote my latest quiz: Do You Get Enough Nature? Hopefully it will inspire you to get outside a bit more if you’re not getting enough nature 🙂 I know that writing it has inspired me.

Quiz: What’s Your Celtic Horoscope?

What does Celtic astrology say about you?

Have you heard about Celtic astrology? I don’t know too much about it (just enough to write a quiz), but it seems pretty cool to me. It’s an old astrological system based on what tree you were born under season wise. I hear that this is how the Celtic people used to keep the time of the year, and that makes sense to me, given how verdant Ireland is. It seems like there were many trees cycling throughout the year.

I don’t know how much stock you want to put in to Celtic astrology. I think it’s a fun alternative (or complement) to regular Western astrology – and the version I wrote, has over 20 outcomes! And since it’s an Irish holiday weekend, I figured it would be appropriate to feature on the blog – especially for those of us who don’t necessarily want all St. Patrick’s Day all the time 😉

Take What’s Your Celtic Horoscope? and see how true it is for you. All you need to complete this quick quiz is your birthday. I’m curious to know what all our regular – and irregular – readers get. (Do note that there is a lot of conflicting information about Celtic trees and birthdates online. I did a lot of research and tried to pick which seemed standard, but you may read differently elsewhere. Sorry about that. This isn’t a science – just for fun!)

Discussion topics (Comment below and let me know any or all of these):

  1. What do you get on What’s Your Celtic Horoscope?
    Is it true for you?
  2. Do you have a particular type of tree that you love or feel a connection to?
  3. Does your Celtic horoscope sound at all like your star sign? Or rising sign? Do you think this is an interesting complement to Western astrology … or does it contradict what you’ve been told elsewhere.

What Lunar Phase Are You?

What phase of the moon best suits you?

Do you subscribe to the philosophy that the cycle of the moon affects how we feel and behave? As you might have noticed, the word “lunatic” comes from the idea of the moon… or “luna” in Latin. Long ago, people used to believe that the full moon could make us crazy – and I’m not just talking about werewolf stories! Modern psychology has mostly debunked this theory of the full moon making us insane, but studies have suggested that we behave differently depending on the lunar phase. During the full moon phase, people have more sleep disturbances – possibly just due to more light in the sky.

After doing research, I’m not sure that the moon has a big impact on how we behave. Still, I am interested in the different phases of the moon and what they have traditionally meant to people. I think there tends to be a grain of truth to folk wisdom, even if science hasn’t proven it yet. We seem to believe that the phases of the moon are important, and I would be at least willing to bet that our personal affinity towards certain lunar phases says something about us.

I decided to do some research on lunar phases and what they mean for different cultures. Fascinating stuff! It turns out that each lunar phase has a distinct feel and meaning, and they’re pretty similar cross culturally. I really like the distinctness and richness of thinking in these terms, especially because it’s so cyclical. Of course, I ended up writing a whole quiz about it: What Lunar Phase Are You?

What do you think of this  What Lunar Phase Are You?  Do you agree that lunar phases are an important part of this world? What was your outcome? Is there a phase of the moon you like the best?
