Homesick for Home!

House with a snowy background

What does home mean to you?

I have been away from home for almost a week, and I’m feeling quite homesick at this point. Even though the world is an amazing, interesting, and beautiful place, there is nothing like the feel of my own bed and the taste of a perfectly brewed cup of tea in the morning. I’ll enjoy the rest of my trip as best as I can, but I know the feeling of relaxation I’ll immediately feel when I step back inside my house.

It’s funny how homesickness creeps up on me. I never expect to be homesick when planning my adventures, but the minute I leave home, I’m immediately homesick. The older I get, the more homesick I am. I suppose I’m getting a little more set in my ways, but I also like to think that I’m starting to appreciate simple pleasure more… and those pleasures start at home.

And of course, being homesick makes me think of home and what it means to me. For me, home means comfort, safety, and most importantly, mental space. Whenever I am away from home, I am distracted. I may be having the time of my life, but I’m not able to think clearly or truly be me. When I’m back at home in my favorite sunny spot on my day bed, that’s when I truly feel like myself.

What about you? What does home mean to you? Take this What Feels Like Home to You? and find out! Let me know what you get on this one, and if you’re like me – a homebody prone to homesickness. If you’re not like me, I’d like to hear about that too. I long to be a more adventurous spirit, so I’m curious how those of you who travel frequently do it without being homesick.
