What was elementary school like for you?

Happy Friday everyone! I don’t know why, but I have been flooded with memories from elementary school lately. It was a long time ago, but I still can remember walking in to school in the morning – and what it felt like to eat in the cafeteria. I thought it would be fun to discuss our elementary school / primary school memories for this week’s Friday Five (feel free to improvise if you were homeschooled).ย This week’s giveaway will be to the ever popular Amazon.com ๐Ÿ™‚ Answer the questions below for a chance to win a $10 Amazon.com gift codeย courtesy ofย Swagbucks.

All you have to do to enter is comment below and answer the Friday Five.ย I will run a random number generator on Monday morning and pick the winner that way. I will comment on the thread to the person who won, so you can check back to see who won that way. If you miss it, I will announce the winner in the comments and next week in the P.S.

So, here are the Friday Five questions for this week. Simply answer below in a comment to enterย :-)

Public and private. As I got older, I went to international/boarding schools
    Art, science, and music
Talk to friends and when I was alone, I stretched for my figure skating competitions
Grades 5-9 when I enrolled into private school

    You Are Gym

You are an outgoing person who loves to be on a team. You prefer working with others to working solo.
You love to win for everyone, and your favorite successes are the ones you can share with your friends.

You are good at both understanding and following the rules. No matter what they are, you’ll find a way to win!
You are good at practical skills, and you don’t mind practicing until you get them down.

I hate gym. ๐Ÿ™ But everything else is accurate enough.

It was my dream to go to international boarding school as a girl! I was so bored with my hometown, and I’m still a little jealous that you got to go ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. What sort of elementary school did you go to? Public? Private? Parochial? Home School?

Public but honestly was in a rather affluent area so felt like a private school!

    2. What was your favorite subject in elementary school?

Reading/writing, that is still applicable today:)

    3. What did you do during recess?
Ran around with friends, played four square, climbed the jungle gym/did gymnastics, chased boys haha

    4. Did you have a favorite grade or teacher? Which one?
It was surprisingly the 5th grade with Mr. Houston. He was the teacher who scared me the most at first because he was so loud and rather intimidating but he turned out to be the most fair and interesting teacher that I’ve had–plus I think I was a favorite in his class.

    5. Take What Elementary School Subject Are You? โ€“ What do you get? Is it accurate?

I got “gym” which surprises me and it does not at the same time. I never considered myself to be that active but I suppose that as a kid and now, I am rather active!

Oh I totally forgot about foursquare. That was one of my favorites as well ๐Ÿ™‚

I found that some of the most intimidating teachers were my favorites over time as well. There is a lot to be said for a teacher that’s fair.

    1. What sort of elementary school did you go to?
    Private/religious

    2. What was your favorite subject in elementary school?
English/reading–I used to read ahead while other kids were reading out loud, and sometimes not notice when we moved on to other subjects. ๐Ÿ™‚

    3. What did you do during recess?
Hide in a corner with a smuggled-out book–I didn’t like dodge ball, and that’s what my class almost always wanted to play.

    4. Did you have a favorite grade or teacher? Which one?
Actually, I didn’t much like elementary school. I liked the newts we had in 4th grade, so I guess that would be my favorite!

    5. Take What Elementary School Subject Are You? โ€“ What do you get? Is it accurate?

I got “You are Reading” and yeah, that’s about right!

I used to read ahead too! I had to in order to not be bored ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love that you hid with a book during recess. In junior high / high school, I spent a lot of free periods and lunches tucked away in the back of the library.

    1) What sort of elementary school did you go to? Public? Private? Parochial? Home School?

Private. It was a rather small school, so you knew most of the people there near your own age.

    2) What was your favorite subject in elementary school?

Hmm, that’s a tough one. Probably gym or art because I didn’t have to stay still. I liked doing math homework, but I often felt bored in math class.

    3) What did you do during recess?

When I was young, I played a lot of football! When I was older in elementary school, I played tether ball or just went to a corner and talked with friends.

    4) Did you have a favorite grade or teacher? Which one?

Probably my first grade teacher, because she played the accordion and spanked us on our birthdays (yes, it was a different time back then!)

    5) Take What Elementary School Subject Are You? โ€“ What do you get? Is it accurate?

    Art! Yes ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s interesting. I can see how the two would be related, because they are both pretty active and exploratory ๐Ÿ™‚
