Friday Five: Birthday Edition

How do you celebrate your birthday?

How do you celebrate your birthday?

Happy Friday everyone… and happy birthday to me ๐Ÿ™‚ Yup, it is really, truly my birthday today, and I’m excited that it falls on the Friday Five day. I can’t think of a more fun way to celebrate than with a birthday themed Friday Five. (And don’t worry if I’m working too hard on my big day – I wrote this post ahead of time.) As far as other celebrations go, I am going to ask Mr. Blogthings to take me out to a fun restaurant or two and eat lots of birthday cupcakes. And I have a special movie picked out for tonight. I like to keep it low key.

Of course, it wouldnโ€™t be a Friday Five without a random giveaway. This week Iโ€™m giving away a $10 Old Navyย gift code courtesy ofย Swagbucks. A lot of you on Facebook said you’d love an Old Navy card, and I recently learned they ship to 80 countries ๐Ÿ™‚ (Swagbucksย isย an entertaining and easy place to earn free gift cards that I am obsessed with. If you love free gift cards, I highly recommend checking them out if you live inย Australia, Canada, Ireland, UK, or the US.)

All you have to do to enter is comment below and answer the Friday Five.ย I will run a random number generator on Monday morning and pick the winners that way. I will comment on the thread to the people who won, so you can check back to see who won that way. If you miss it, I will announce the winner on Facebook and also next week in the P.S.

So, here are the Friday Five questions for this week. Simply answer below in a comment to enterย :-)

Friday Five –ย Birthday Edition

  1. What’s your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?
  2. Do you like to have a cake on your birthday? If so, which kind?
  3. What celebrities, family members, or friends share your birthday? (Feel free to do a couple searches to find out)
  4. What gift would you like for your next birthday?
  5. What Does Your Birth Date Mean?ย Take the quiz and share your result. Is it true?

P.S. Congratulations to last weekโ€™s Friday Five winner, Lindaย :-)

I like to go out to eat with my family on my birthday. I love having cake on my birthday. My favorite type of cake is red velvet. Yum! For my next birthday, I don’t know what I want yet. It’s too far away. Celebrities that share my birthday are Paul Walker, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Statham, Emmy Rossum. Also Henry Hudson. ๐Ÿ™‚ My results for the quiz are: Magician. “You’re a dynamic, charismatic person who’s possibly headed for fame. You tend to charm strangers easily. And you usually can get what you want from them. Verbally talented, you tend to persuade people with your speaking and writing. 1. Whatโ€™s your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?
With lots of phone calls and emails and tweets and messages. I like that people remember!

    2. Do you like to have a cake on your birthday? If so, which kind?
Not really a cake, but I do like a special pastry, like an eclair or a napoleon.

    3. What celebrities, family members, or friends share your birthday? (Feel free to do a couple searches to find out)
*googles* John Lithgow and John Le Carre. (It was a good day for Johns!)

    4. What gift would you like for your next birthday?
That shouldn’t be a tricky question, but my family doesn’t really do birthday gifts! Hmmm….I just like people to remember, so a call or a tweet or a card or whatever, that’s a fine gift!

    5. What Does Your Birth Date Mean? Take the quiz and share your result. Is it true?

    I got:

    You Are a Lone Wolf

You are resilient, and no doubt your resilience has already been tested.
You’ve had some difficult experiences in your life, but you are wise from them.
Having had to grow up quickly, you tend to discount the advice of others.
You tend to be a loner, having learned that the only person you can depend on is yourself.

Your strength: Well developed stability and confidence

    Your weakness: Suspicion of others

    Your power color: Eggplant

    1. I like themed parties. But if I can’t have one, a shopping spree or a day at an amusement park or arcade will do just as well, followed by a meal at a restaurant I love.
    2. Chocolate. Always chocolate.
    3. Danny DeVito, Martin Scorsese, Stephen Root, Jeff Buckley, Gordon Lightfoot, Lorne Michaels, Isaac Hanson, Rock Hudson, RuPaul, Rachel McAdams, Lauren Hutton, Raquel Castro, Sophie Marceau, Daisy Fuentes and Leslie Bibb.
    4. A new place to live or a bike. My husband has nine months and two days to deliver! ๐Ÿ˜‰
    5. You Are a Winner

You tend to find yourself lucky – both in business and in life.
And while being wealthy is nice, you enjoy sharing your abundance with others.
You put your luck to good use: you are very ambitious and goal oriented.
Often times, you get over excited and take on more than you can manage.

Your strength: Your ability to make your own luck

Your weakness: Thinking you can do it all

    Your power color: Bronze

    Your power symbol: Half Moon

    Your power month: August

Interesting how August is my “power month” – nothing ever really happens in August other than school coming back in session! But now that I am a student again, it does hold a new significance. The result pretty much hits the nail on the head, especially now that I am pursuing a degree and a career. I’ve learned that I succeed mostly when I actually put forward my best efforts, rather than skating by and hoping things work out. In fact, that’s how I earned my almost straight-A average last semester – it actually takes work.

Happy birthday! A movie sounds like a good way to celebrate. ๐Ÿ™‚

    01. On my birthday I like to reflect a bit, have some good food, spend time with family and friends and maybe do something out of the ordinary, like go to a concert or ballet.
    02. Sometimes I have cake on my birthday, but more recently I’ve felt like exploring other options, so I’ve been making cheesecakes or pies.
    03. I share my birthday with Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of one of my favourite films: A long dimanche de fianรงailles (A Very Long Engagement).
    04. I’d really love to have a black ’67 Chevy Impala. On a less expensive note, I always enjoy used books or gift cards to iTunes/Amazon.
    05. According to the quiz…

You are more than a big ball of energy – you are a big ball of hyper. (Not so much these days.)
You are always on the go, but you don’t have a type A personality. (Always on the go, yes. But I probably do have a type A personality.)
Instead of channeling your energy into work, you instead go for fun and adventure. (Nope.)
Witty and verbal, you can have an interesting conversation with anyone. (I love interesting conversations. Not sure about the witty part.)

Your strength: Your larger than life imagination (Yes.)

Your weakness: You tend to be pretty scattered (Not very.)

Your power color: Lime (I’d prefer oxblood.)

Your power symbol: Lightening bolt (Okay.)

    Your power month: March (Okay…)

Happy Birthday, Blogthings! Enjoy it to the max! Feel free to tell us which movie you watched later on.

    Here are my answers:

    1. Being in London. (Love that town above everything – however only celebrated one birthday there so far.)

    2. No, bit of a difficulty since I’m allergic against almonds/marzipan/berries AND detest whipped cream. The only cake that works is plain chocolate cake or fruit cake.

    3. I prefer to celebrate several times with fewer people each time instead of throwing a party for everybody at the same time. Makes me more able to focus on the company.

    4. Virtually anything from British Museum in London will do. Or African Touch design store here in Stockholm. ๐Ÿ™‚

    5. You Are a Thespian

You are a virtual roller coaster of emotions, and most people enjoy the ride.
Your mood tends to set the tone of the room, and when you’re happy, this is a good thing.
When you get in a dark mood, watch out – it’s very hard to get you out of it.
It’s sometimes hard for you to cheer up, and your gloom can be contagious.

    Your strength: Your warm heart

Your weakness: Trouble controlling your emotions

    Your power color: Black

    Your power symbol: Musical note

    Your power month: February

Comment: Partly true – I’m an intense person yet quite thick-skinned. Am warm towards those who deserve it. The most accurate parts of the result is that my mood sets the tune in a room and the musical note thing. My whole life is resembling a soundtrack. Am a music addict.

I love the idea of celebrating in London!

I can imagine it’s very difficult to enjoy cake in Sweden with a nut and berry allergy. In the US, using nuts is a lot less common, and we rarely put whipped cream on cake. If you ever come to visit, you can experience the US obsession with frosting ๐Ÿ™‚
